Living in Joy ACIM—A Course in Miracles Gathering
“To give and to receive are one in truth.” (A Course in Miracles, W-108)
In this gathering with students of A Course in Miracles, David Hoffmeister shares: “I don’t remember how it was to play the game of the world. I can’t remember the game of exchange and reciprocity. It touches everything in the world. It’s how the world works. Even churches run off this concept. Some churches even make tithing mandatory. Every aspect of this world runs off of reciprocity.
A Course in Miracles says that giving and receiving are the same. So if you give away joy, you don’t need to take any thought for anything else in the world. As phenomenal or other worldly that may sound, it actually works. Mother Teresa was a good example of this. She had so much joy to give away. She gallivanted across the world hugging her fellow sisters, then go to Mexico and South America, then India.
She was famous for turning down donations. She would say, ‘No. No. Don’t write some big check. Go work in a soup kitchen. Do something that comes from the heart.’ Similarly, not one of your beliefs or concepts has the power to hold you down. So, let’s take the time to expose them together to the light. That way we can be in the joy together. We can give what we are.”
