ACIM Gathering—Reversing Cause and Effect
This A Course in Miracles audio is an interactive dialogue between participants and David Hoffmeister on A Course in Miracles concepts including the question of reversing cause and effect as the world sees it.
In this gathering, David shares: “In A Course in Miracles, it is generally talked about as if every brother has a mind of his own. For example, in the Manual for Teachers, it says something along the lines, ‘Can a healer change the patient’s mind? Certainly not.’ When in fact, the thing we’ll be working towards and eventually realizing, is there is only one Son of God, there’s only one Mind.
Also, in the metaphorical sense, there is only one ego. Ultimately, there is no ego. Similarly, in the ultimate metaphysical sense, how can all minds be healed in all places and all times, which it states in the Workbook of A Course in Miracles? If I accept the Atonement, this is how the world is saved. The salvation of the world depends on me. The salvation of the cosmos depends on me. You can see the two angles. One implying there is no cosmos outside my mind and when I accept the correction it takes care of the cosmos.
This is a huge quantum leap from the linear sense that, as a fragment, if I accept the Atonement, then I have to wait for all the other fragments to accept the Atonement before it is all healed. But these two thoughts can’t go together. So, one idea is a lot deeper than the other. As people work with A Course in Miracles, this is a major area of confusion. Most are very confused that there are multiple ideas represented in A Course in Miracles. Once a rung is transcended, it’s seen to be a metaphor or a stepping stone.
Since the mind believes that it is fragmented into concepts and beliefs, the tool of A Course in Miracles is filled with statements pertaining to all these seeming levels of consciousness. Yet it also says that you learn this Course entirely or not at all. Basically saying, once you reach the top of the ladder, the whole ladder disappears. This is literally a journey without distance to a goal that has never changed. Now is the only time you can accept the Atonement, because right now is all there is.”
